What we collect

When you sign up, we collect the email address you give us and the date you signed up. We ask for nothing else.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

We use your email address for one purpose: to send you the Scared Prepared newsletter, roughly once a month. Our lawful basis is your consent, under Article 6(1)(a) of the UK GDPR, which you give when you sign up. You can withdraw that consent at any time, and doing so is as easy as giving it (see "Your rights" below). Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did with your data before you withdrew it.

Who else handles it

Your data is processed on our behalf by the services that run this site and send our email: our website host (Spaceship) and our email provider (Spacemail). They act only on our instructions. We do not sell, rent or trade your data, and we never share it for anyone else's marketing.

Storage and international transfers

Some of these providers may process data on servers outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on safeguards approved under UK data protection law (such as the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement or adequacy regulations) to keep your data protected.

How long we keep it

We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it, after which we delete it from our mailing list without undue delay.

Cookies

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not run third-party analytics. We store one small item in your browser to remember that you accepted this notice, so we do not ask you again. It holds no personal data and is not shared with anyone.

If we ever add analytics or other non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent first and update this policy.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to: be informed about how we use your data; ask for a copy of it (access); have it corrected (rectification); have it deleted (erasure); restrict or object to how we use it; ask us to move it to another provider (portability); and withdraw your consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email hello@scaredprepared.com and we will respond within one month. You can also unsubscribe using the link in any newsletter.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk. Contacting us first is not a condition of complaining to the ICO.
